      37th ANNIVERSARY DINNER IN 2006

Each year, Dignity/L.A. celebrates the anniversary of its founding in 1969 as the first chapter of the Dignity movement.   In 2006, the chapter's 37th Anniversary Dinner was held on October 14, 2006, at Maggiano's Little Italy in The Grove in Los Angeles, with chapter President, Kevin Steen, as master of ceremonies.

Keynoter:

Keynote speaker Mario Guerrero, the Development & Public Affairs Director of Bienestar, addresses the 37th Anniversary Dinner of Dignity/L.A. (at the left). He also accepted on behalf of Bienestar a $1,000 grant from the chapter to Bienestar, which is the largest Latino community-based organization in the country for meeting needs of Latinos living with HIV/AIDS or at risk.

Archangel Awards:

At each annual Anniversary Dinner, the chapter gives recognition to long-standing and faithful service to the chapter and community. Each of the honorees receives a statue of an Archangel to mark the occasion. The recipients of the 2006 Archangel Awards are Tom Voss (to the left below; and he also conducted the Silent Auction held for the benefit of the chapter), at the Anniversary Dinner, and Arturo Vargas (to the right below), at the Anniversary Dinner.

Anniversary Gifts:

It is tradition that the chapter give recognition, at its annual Anniversary Dinner, to organizations that provide exceptional service to members of the GLBT community in metropolitan Los Angeles. To do this in 2006, the chapter gave $1,000 grants to two organizations: Bienestar (with Mario Guerrero accepting for Bienestar, as already noted above) and the Minority AIDS Project. Accepting on behalf of the Minority AIDS Project was Carolyn Martin, Director of Research & Evaluation Client Services. She is shown to the right at the Anniversary Dinner, with her co-worker Richard Hamilton.

Attendees Enjoying Themselves:

It is also tradition that those attending the Anniversary Dinner enjoy themselves at the event. Due to careful planning of the event by the chapter's VP, this goal was easily met, as one can readily see from the following candid shots:
