      38th ANNIVERSARY DINNER IN 2007

Each year, Dignity/Los Angeles celebrates the anniversary of its founding in 1969 as the first chapter of the Dignity movement.  In 2007, the chapter's 38th Anniversary Dinner was held on October 6, 2007, at Maggiano's Little Italy in The Grove in Los Angeles.  Chapter president, Jason, acted as the master of ceremonies; and chapter VP, Tom Vos, made the arrangements for the event. The keynote speaker was Rev. Neil Thomas, representing California Faith For Equality; and we apologize for not having a photo of him delivering his speech at the event that we can use on this web page.

Archangel Award:

At each annual Anniversary Dinner, the chapter gives recognition to long-standing and faithful service to the chapter and the community, particularly by one or more members of the chapter. Each honoree receives a statue of an Archangel to mark the occasion. For 2007, there was only one Archangel Award, namely the one to chapter member Dayne Navarro, who is shown at the left accepting his Archangel (with some onlookers shown in a mirror, at the right in the photo).

Family of Honoree:

The mother and sister of the Archangel Honoree also attended the Dinner. Beaming with pride, family are shown here seated (from left to right): Dayne himself, his sister Diane Parkhouse, and his mother Yolanda. Also shown, standing at the rear are (from left to right): chapter president Jason, Pat (a friend of Dayne), and chapter VP Tom Vos.

Cash Grants

It is tradition that the chapter also give recognition, at its annual Anniversary Dinner, to organizations that provide exceptional service to members of the GLBT community in the metropolitan Los Angeles area. In 2007, the chapter gave two $1,500 grants, to organizations: Being Alive and Project Angel Food. Their representatives are shown to the left, perusing the program while violinist Richard Atkins provides musical entertainment to the gathering.

Attendees Enjoying Themselves:

It is also tradition that those attending the Anniversary Dinner enjoy themselves at the event. Due to careful planning of the event by chapter
VP Tom Vos, this goal was easily met, as one can readily see from the following candid shots:
In the photo to the right, are partners Jay and Julio, plus
      dinner partner Tim.

In the photo to the right are Jim and Eileen.

In the photo to the left, are Pedro, Ramon, and Michael.
